Graduated from Central Washington University in music education (1974) and a masters in educational administration (1991).
I am presently a teacher for the Fairbanks North Star Borough School District since 2005. I have taught band, general music, construction academy, coached small bore rifle and air rifle. I also play trumpet on my free time in a local jazz quartet.
My wife, Kathy and I have three sons, all former Marines, and a daughter. All are active hunters and fisherman but are spread from Long Beach, California to North Pole, Alaska. The boys always find time to come up and spend, at least part of the season, hunting and fishing with their dad.
I began teaching hunter education in Washington State in 1981 until I moved to Alaska in 2005. I recertified in hunter education through the Alaska Dept. of Fish & Game in 2007 and am presently still actively involved in hunter education where I teach at both the indoor range and at my elementary school.
One of the main reasons I became involved in hunter education is due to an accident I had at the age of 12 when I was accidently shot by my brother in the face by a hang fire from a .22. It left a mark both physically and emotionally that took a while to overcome. A personal goal is to not see any hunter education graduates involved in any firearm accident.
